About five miles south of historic Gettysburg, on the Taneytown Road, and just two miles north of the Mason Dixon Line, is the little village of Barlow. Barlow Fire Department, Adams County 22, was established in 1931. The fire department is an all-volunteer fire department. Their mission from the start was to prevent and protect those in need. Whether it be responding to medical emergencies, fires, accidents, rescues, events involving hazardous materials, etc. Barlow has vowed to be there for their community in any time of crisis since day one. Barlow does not stand alone. Barlow helps assist other surrounding fire departments. As well as those surrounding fire departments helping Barlow. Hand in hand, they all work together for the common goal of protecting and serving their community. Gettysburg Station 1, Harney Carroll Station 11, United Hook and Ladder 33, and other departments who reaches out for support. Barlow Fire Department also gives back to its community by going to public events for fire prevention and community awareness. Barlow has been seen out at the Gettysburg outlets, schools, daycares and many others. The fire department also has multiple fundraisers throughout the year including gun drawings, an annual golf tournament, a father’s day drawing and many others. Barlow is currently in the process of raising money for their new Engine Rescue that will hopefully be in service within the first few months of 2026. Barlow Fire Department is proud to be in service for over 90 years and looking forward to many more!
